Son propos est aussi de mettre en évidence la transformation des perceptions sur ce paysage qui passe par l’évaporation de l’exotique et par la condensation de l’identitaire. Cette évolution est particulièrement sensible lorsque l’île a cessé de se mettre en représentation sous les « oripeaux » du mythe du paradis insulaire. Based on the iconographic trajectory marked out by Paul Cassien’s sketches and André Blay’s photographs, this paper will critically explore the exotic and identity-establishing landscapes of Reunion Island. It also unveils the changes in perception of this landscape, which notably entails an “evaporation” of the exotic and a “condensation” of identity.
