Pour ce faire, nous recourons au concept géographique d’échelle pour distinguer trois niveaux d’étude de l’océan Indien : l’échelle insulaire, l’échelle archipélique et l’échelle océanique. Ce concept d’origine géographique est ici déterritorialisé pour permettre la recherche en littérature(s) francophone(s). Le recours au concept d’échelle et sa déclinaison ternaire ont pour vocation de permettre au chercheur de savoir d’où il parle et comment il parle de et à partir d’un lieu, pour construire ensuite des passerelles avec d’autres champs disciplinaires selon une volonté de généralisation croissante. The aim of this article is to build research on literature in the Indian ocean. To do so, we use the geographical concept of scale to distinguish three levels in the Indian ocean: the island, the archipelago and the ocean. The concept of scale comes from geography and is here used in literature to enable francophone literary research. Pour ce faire, l’étude porte d’abord sur le tableau de Mayotte brossé par l’auteur, puis sur la façon dont il se met en scène, non seulement comme écrivain, mais aussi comme intellectuel et comme prophète, ce qui invite, en dernier ressort et en miroir, à une analyse de la réception de ses textes. Ainsi cette contribution, fondée sur l’écrivain qui prophétisait, au seuil des années 1990, que son île ne serait pas départementalisée par la France, permet-elle, une trentaine d’années plus tard, une évaluation des continuités et des ruptures, notamment dans les domaines de l’évolution sociale et sociétale, mais aussi dans les rapports qu’entretient Mayotte avec son environnement immédiat – les Comores – et un autre, plus lointain – la métropole française. This article deals with Abdou Salam Baco’s literary speech. It consists in analyzing the author’s posture and the way reality is turned into texts. To do so, we will first study various excerpts of his novels prior to examining the texts in which he describes how he wants to appear and those in which he is seen by his readers. This will also enable us to measure how the island has changed – or not – since the beginning of Abdou Salam Baco’s literary career. Indeed, not only his literary speech itself, but also the negative way it was read, forced the author to change the way he appeared and the ideas he was defending. From the big bad wolf to a kind of alert launcher, Abdou Salam successively appears as a novelist without a reader, an intellectual without an audience and a prophet with no crowd to listen to him.
