Il est envoyé par le Ministère des colonies dans le cadre d’un projet de valorisation de cette lointaine colonie de l’océan Indien. Il participe à la décoration et à l’embellissement des mairies de deux villes historiques : Saint-Paul et Saint-Denis. Son travail, peu connu, est un témoignage des paysages insulaires mais aussi du développement économique et social de l’Île et de la nécessité de sa valorisation touristique. Navy Painter in a postimpressionism style, Maurice Ménardeau visited Reunion Island three times during the 1930s. He was sent by the Colonial Ministry in order to enhance this remote French Colony of the Indian Ocean. He achieved a vast program of Paintings for the cities’ townhalls of Saint-Paul and Saint-Denis.
